Our History.

Golden Mean Tutorial Cooperative was founded in 2005 on the Golden Mean Philosophy, the Governing Principles, and the idea that all children are innately curious, and, if given respect, affirmation, a solid community and holistic individualized instruction, can succeed with dignity and intellectual independence.  With its roots planted firmly in the mind of its founder, Amanda Reed, GMTC began as a grass roots, homeschool tutoring co-op in her home in the summer of 2005. By spring of 2006, interest in her unconventional, family-inclusive homeschool co-op blossomed, and she purchased the current tutoring facility.

”I started at Golden Mean about half way through high school after trying my hardest to fail at public school. Coming here put a renewed wind in my sails and I immediately felt at home in the community. I thrived in the intense academics and personalized tutoring. I avoided math as much as possible (not possible with Amanda). I was constantly looking for side projects and independent work I could do, and GM facilitated as much of that as possible. I made life long friends here and managed to recover my academic career. By the time I graduated, Amanda and the other tutors had reignited my love for academics and passion for exploring the world.”
