Here at Golden Mean, we value the development of the whole child rather than just their information acquisition and intellect. Weekly excursions represent a crucial aspect of the GMTC experience. We live in an area rich with opportunity, and Fridays are used to explore the larger world in depth. Outings include a range of foci, including community service, environmental field work, outdoor team building, and more traditional field trips (museums, plays, etc.), as well as the twice yearly “awakeovers.”

Extended Trips.

Every fall, the entire student community is invited to participate in a team building trip for three days. From white water rafting in West Virginia to caving in Virginia to environmental centers with ropes courses, the members gain valuable insight into what it means to be a part of something larger than themselves.

Every spring, the members are invited to go on an extended trip, often to learn unexpected skills. Past trips include: swimming with manatees in Crystal River, FL; cruising to Canada, to the Caribbean, and through Northern Europe; and kayaking and beach surfing in the Outer Banks.
